Abstract

This article discusses the use of R programing language for executing a sentiment analysis of tweets pertaining to library topics. This discussion is situated within the literature of marketing and management sciences, which is employing methods of machine learning and business intelligence to make informed decision-making, and library administration, which has expressed great interest in social media engagement within its literature but has yet to adopt these types of analysis. Presented in this article is a sample code with instructions on how users may execute it within R to retrieve and analyze tweets relevant to library services. Two examples created using the code (analysis of top librarians’ tweets and analysis of posts about major book publishers) are used to demonstrate the functionality of the code. The code presented in this article may be used by libraries to analyze tweets about their library and library-related topics, which, in turn, may inform management and marketing design.  相似文献

We previously proposed that science capital (science-related forms of cultural and social capital) can be used as a theoretical lens for explaining the patterned nature of aspirations and educational participation among young people aged 11–16. Building on these findings, the present article investigates whether science capital is related to post-18 aspirations to pursue further STEM study and whether science capital can be extended to related disciplines including engineering, maths and technology. Specifically, we report on correlational analyses exploring the relationships between science, technology, engineering and maths attitudes and science capital. Drawing on data from a new survey of 7,013 17/18 year old English secondary school students, analyses showed that science capital, while strongly related to engineering and physical science future study aspirations, was not strongly related to the pursuit of either maths or technology postsecondary study. The findings also suggest that engineering and maths attitudes have a stronger relationship to science capital than attitudes relating to technology. We conclude with a discussion of the implications of these findings and propose that science capital might be more usefully applied to “SEM,” with links to technology fields and aspirations needing further exploration.  相似文献

Recruiting and preparing STEM majors for teaching has become one of the major efforts at improving mathematics and science teacher quality at secondary level. One question is whether STEM majors who have not had the chance to experience active learning in mathematics and science classes as secondary students themselves know what inquiry pedagogy is. Secondly, it is unclear whether those who experienced inquiry in their college introductory discipline courses will be able to utilize the pedagogy in teaching secondary content. We address these questions through studying an undergraduate research methods course designed to improve STEM majors’ capacity for delivering inquiry-based mathematics and science lesson. Analysis of data from pre-and-post course surveys and students’ written research reports including students’ reflection on their inquiry projects suggests that offering future STEM teachers opportunities to conduct inquiry and reflect explicitly on how inquiry can be used to teach secondary content is important and beneficial.  相似文献

This study investigated the effect of including explicit nature of science (NOS) content in read-alouds of elementary science trade books on the teaching and learning of NOS. We focused on three aspects of NOS: the creative, the empirical, and the inferential NOS. The trade books were read aloud by teachers in three hierarchical levels: Level I served as a control and consisted of a trade book that remained unmodified, Level II consisted of a trade book that had been modified to include explicit references to NOS, and Level III consisted of a modified trade book accompanied by educative curriculum materials that were aimed at improving the teachers' views of NOS as well as supporting teaching about NOS. We used the Views of Nature of Science Questionnaire-form CE (VNOS-CE) preintervention and postintervention to determine changes in teachers' views of NOS and interviews preintervention and postintervention to determine changes in students' views. Audio recordings of read-alouds were used to determine changes in teaching practice, including the frequency and the quality (i.e., naïve or informed) of the NOS references in the discussions. Interviews were used to determine teachers' perceptions of the modified trade books and educative curriculum materials. We found that both teachers and students developed more informed views of the targeted NOS aspects after the intervention and that teachers addressed NOS more often, and in a more informed manner, when they had trade books that explicitly supported NOS instruction and educative curriculum materials that supported their learning about NOS. Furthermore, they perceived the intervention materials favorably. Teachers' views and practices were able to change in tandem because of the intervention materials that supported explicit NOS instruction. We highlight the need for more widespread development of similar educative curriculum materials.  相似文献

Abstract

The Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) has formal relationships with the Library of Congress (LC), Share-VDE, and Linked Data for Production Phase 2 (LD4P2) for work on Bibliographic Framework (BIBFRAME), and PCC institutions have been very active in the exploration of MARC to BIBFRAME conversion processes. This article will review the involvement of PCC in the development of BIBFRAME and examine the work of LC, Share-VDE, and LD4P2 on MARC to BIBFRAME conversion. It will conclude with a discussion of areas for further exploration by the PCC leading up to the creation of PCC conversion specifications and PCC BIBFRAME data.  相似文献

[目的/意义] 图书馆肩负着实施科普教育的法定职责,拥有品种多样、内容丰富的科普文献与信息资源的图书馆,在开展科普教育方面具有得天独厚的优势。图书馆科普教育起步比较早,2005年,中国图书馆学会成立科普与阅读指导委员会;但在图书馆业界,科普教育只是零星的点缀式服务创新探索,尚未成为常态化服务项目。在依法治馆、创新发展的新时代,寻求图书馆科普教育发展路径具有较强理论和实践意义。[方法/过程] 通过互联网、微信等社交网络平台,对图书馆科普教育基地建设的状况进行调研,从基地等级、基地类型、基地数量、区域分布、有效期限以及认定依据等方面进行深入分析,并对图书馆实施科普教育提出发展路径以供选择。[结果/结论] 图书馆科普教育应坚持基地建设与科普服务相结合、阅读推广与全民科普相融合、科普与游学并举等策略,走设施、资源、服务"三位一体"的持续稳健协调发展之路。  相似文献

[目的/意义] 以"科学人讲坛"在"新媒体+科学文化内容"方面的有序推进为主要案例,论述新媒体技术在图书馆科学文化传播活动中的具体应用,找到专业图书馆科学文化传播工作优势及发展方向。[方法/过程] 梳理"科学人讲坛"讲座内容、推送渠道及观看数据,通过数据分析影响科学文化传播效果的主要因素。[结果/结论] 新媒体及时、灵活、强互动等特性在科学文化传播工作中起到了良好的效果。图书馆的服务意识、丰富馆藏及科学人文精神与新媒体技术优势的结合,使科学文化传播工作中公众的参与兴趣得到了极大提升,拉近了科学与公众间的距离,提高了科学文化传播效果。  相似文献

人工智能相关技术的迅猛发展和逐步普及,使得情报学难以避免人工智能的融合趋势,无论这种融合是主动为之或是被动选择。然而学界对人工智能时代情报学学科的发展走向并未予以充分探讨,大部分研究均将焦点置于大数据与下一代互联网环境中进行论述。本研究将人工智能时代情报学学科走向解构为"本体论""感知论""方法论""服务论"四个论题,对每个论题借由理论面向与实践面向的二分法展开阐释,并从整体视角上提出应在人工智能洪流中找准情报学定位,不能忽视"人"在情报学中的价值以及重视跨学科融合、跨领域应用的发展趋势。  相似文献

为探究国外运动减肥研究的热点内容和演化趋向,以Web of Science核心合集中的SCI-EXPANDED、SSCI、A&HCI为来源数据库,对其中运动科学领域减肥研究的1 211篇文献进行科学计量和文本内容分析。结果显示:(1)有34个国家和地区的学者对运动减肥进行研究。2004年之后,逐渐形成内容丰富的研究体系;(2)研究演进过程可分为萌发、快速发展、深入发展和领域拓展四个阶段;(3)主要聚焦于减肥对健康的影响、减肥的方式方法、减肥后如何防止体重恢复等热点主题;(4)呈现四个方面的发展特征,研究对象越来越有针对性,研究内容从减肥健康原理向减肥方式方法的应用性转化,干预手段从单一运动方案向多重组合方式转变,研究结果倾向量化的数据指标反映关联关系。  相似文献
